Stop the Bleed

Today we live in a world where terrorism, the actions of unstable people, and the dangerous impulses of friends and relatives are very real and becoming increasingly more frequent. Massive bleeding from any cause, but particularly from an active shooter or explosive event where a response is delayed can result in death. Similar to how the general public learns and performs CPR, the public must learn proper bleeding control techniques, including how to use their hands, dressings, and tourniquets. Victims can quickly die from uncontrolled bleeding, within five to 10 minutes. However, anyone at the scene can act as immediate responder and save lives if they know what to do.

This will be a 2 part session. (you must attend both sessions)

Part 1: Early Bird Session – 6:30 – 7:30 am
PowerPoint presentation with instructor demonstrations that will include the following: direct pressure techniques, wound packing and tourniquet application.

Part 2: Break Out Session – 12:05 – 12:55 am
Participants will practice with the assistance of multiple instructors the techniques demonstrated in Part 1.

Each participant that successfully completes the course will receive an Individual response kit which includes Black Talon® Nitrile Trauma Gloves (1 pr.),1 Combat Application Tourniquet®, 1 S-Rolled Gauze™, 1 ETD™ 4 in. Emergency Trauma Dressing

At the end of the program all participants will receive a certificate and may be eligible to obtain an Instructor Certification.

The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma is leading the effort.
